CLAY — Clay-Chalkville could break a 10-year-old state record against rival Hewitt-Trussville on Thursday.
Kickoff at Hewitt-Trussville Stadium is at 7 p.m.
Clay-Chalkville could break an impressive state record in this game. The Class 6A top-ranked Cougars (9-0, 6-0 Class 6A, Region 6) have scored 20 or more points in a game for 56 straight games, dating back to Week 3 of the 2010 high school football season. That streak ties Clay-Chalkville with Hoover for the most consecutive games scoring 20 or more points, which accomplished the feat from 2001 through 2004.

The Clay-Chalkville offense is scoring 49 points per game this season, so expect that record to fall. The Cougars have many weapons and can score in a variety of ways.
The Clay-Chalkville defense is allowing just 19 points per game and has allowed only seven points total in the second halves of its last three games. Last week, Gardendale didn’t manage a first down in the second half.
Clay-Chalkville leads the all-time series against Hewitt-Trussville 11-6, winning the last six in a row. The 31-15 win in 2011, however, was stripped due to the Cougars playing an ineligible player.
How does Clay-Chalkville keep the streak going?
By simply doing what it’s done all year — maintaining a businesslike approach from the short bus ride over until the clock runs out and playing mistake-free football in between.
If the Cougars do that, chances are they’ll still be undefeated heading into the Class 6A playoffs.
