JEFFERSON COUNTY — There are 48 Class 6 and Class 7A teams still playing across the state, and three of them are from the area.
Hewitt-Trussville (5-5) qualified for the first Class 7A playoffs in Alabama high school football history. Clay-Chalkville (10-0) and Pinson Valley (5-5) both reached postseason play coming out of Class 6A.
All three teams will take the field for the opening round Friday, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m.
The Huskies, in head coach Josh Floyd’s opening campaign, will travel to Gadsden City (8-2) for the second time this season. Hewitt-Trussville is the No. 4 team coming out of Region 3. The No. 8 Titans are Region 4 champions. The winner of No. 4 Oak Mountain-James Clements awaits in the second round.
Floyd got his third win as the Huskies head coach, 31-27, over Gadsden City on Sept. 26.
Top-ranked Clay-Chalkville, after running away with the Region 6 title, will host Scottsboro (4-6) coming out of Region 7. With a win, the Cougars will face the victor of Muscle Shoals-Minor.
Pinson Valley worked its way in as Region 6’s No. 4 seed and will travel to Southside-Gadsden (8-2). The Panthers, Region 7 champs, are coming off an open date.
The winner will get the winner of Walker-Decatur.
