JEFFERSON COUNTY — The opening week of high school basketball is here. Although some of the athletes are still competing on the gridiron, area teams are all set for tipoff of the upcoming season.
Two local teams are scheduled to open up this Thursday night, while the others will wait for next week to get things started.
Hewitt-Trussville’s girls will host Class 5A Mortimer Jordan on Thursday night. Clay-Chalkville’s boys visit Briarwood Christian.
The Hewitt-Trussville boys start the season at Hueytown on Monday.
Coach Clint Argo and the Pinson Valley boys begin next Thursday, Nov. 13 at home against Hewitt-Trussville, a game followed by the Lady Indians’ first game, which is at home against Hewitt-Trussville.
Also on Nov. 13, Clay-Chalkville’s girls tip the season on their home floor against Huffman.
Hewitt-Trussville will compete as a member of the newly added Class 7A, and is aligned in Area 6. Clay-Chalkville and Pinson Valley will slug it out in Class 6A, Area 12.
