MONTEVALLO — Former Pinson Valley varsity baseball coach Josh Johnson will be inducted into the University of Montevallo Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2015 on Jan. 31, 2015.
Johnson and seven other former Montevallo athletes will be inducted on the University of Montevallo campus at 6:30 p.m. at Anna Irvin Hall.
“I will just say that it is truly an honor to be included in such a group,” Johnson said. “It’s very humbling to be a part of a group of such great players and people. I am always proud to say I am a Falcon.”
Johnson was named an American Baseball Coaches Association NCAA Division II All-American during his playing career, which spanned 1999-2000. Johnson, who was named a first team All-Gulf South Conference selection in each of his two seasons with the Falcons, was also named the NCAA Division II South Region Pitcher of the Year following his senior year.
This year’s group represents the 22nd class to be inducted into the Hall of Fame dating back to 1989. With the addition of the Class of 2015, the Hall of Fame now features 84 individuals and one team.
Johnson spent the 2011 and 2012 seasons as the head baseball coach at Pinson Valley High School. He compiled a 56-30 record, and in 2012 the Indians posted a 27-15 record, including a second straight appearance in the third round of the Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 5A playoffs.
