PINSON — Jefferson County Schools Superintendent Craig Pouncey spoke at the Pinson Education Committee meeting Monday.
Pouncey spoke about proposed athletic facilities improvements at Pinson Valley High School, maintenance issues at school facilities, the Department of Justice and school zoning, the new lunchroom at Kermit Johnson Elementary School, school funding and tax issues.
Parents and teachers asked about field turf at Willie Adams Stadium, and restroom modernization needs at Rudd Middle School and Pinson Valley High School. One even brought up a request for the complete demolition and replacement of Rudd Middle School.
Several spoke about their concerns of having been ignored over the years while surrounding communities received facility improvements.
The meeting was attended by all Pinson school principals, Pinson Mayor Hoyt Sanders, Sen. Shay Shelnutt, Rep. Danny Garrett, and Pinson City Council members Dawn Tanner, Joe Cochran and Robbie Roberts.
The next Pinson Education Committee meeting will be held soon after the first of the year.
