CHALKVILLE — Chalkville Elementary School’s Talented and Gifted program’s holiday toy and supply drive to benefit Children’s Hospital of Alabama ends Friday, Dec. 12.
The program is collecting new and unwrapped toys, games, and arts and crafts supplies.
The drive has been coordinated entirely by fourth- and fifth-grade students. Students chose what organization to collect items for, contacted the appropriate person within that organization, created print and video advertisements for use on campus, wrote an announcement to be read over the intercom system, and wrote a message for the SchoolCast to go out to parents.
The students coordinated pickup of donated items from areas around campus, counted items daily, and boxed and labeled all the donations for dropoff at Children’s Hospital. Students also secured a reward for the class that turned in the most items.
Items donated include books, puzzles, board and card games, stickers, coloring books, and crayons.
