JEFFERSON COUNTY — Just before 9:30 p.m. Wednesday deputies responded to a report of a burglary in the 5200 block of Doug Hollow Road near Clay.
A 16-year-old female victim had run to a neighbor’s home and told them that someone had broken into her house, said Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Randy Christian.
The victim reported that she had been home alone sleeping on a couch in the living room when she was awakened by a noise in the house, Christian said. She opened her eyes and saw two suspects attempting to steal a television. She yelled at them and they dropped the television and ran, Christian said.
She told deputies that she went to a window and watched the men run to a red Saturn that was parked in her driveway. She heard one of them say they could not find the keys and then they fled on foot, Christian said. She then ran to a neighbor’s house to call for help.
A red Saturn was found in the driveway and the keys were found on the ground next to the car door. Deputies used K9s to search the area, but did not locate the suspects.
The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 205-325-1450 or Crimestoppers at 205-254-7777.
