CLAY — The second addition of the Alabama Sports Writers Association top 10 basketball poll is out, and Clay-Chalkville is represented on the girls’ and boys’ side.
After beating previous No. 2 Center Point on Friday and handling Pinson Valley on Tuesday, the Lady Cougars (12-2) jumped one spot up to No. 2 this week. The Lady Eagles slipped two spots to No. 4.
On the boys’ side, Clay-Chalkville (9-2) came away on the wrong side of an overtime decision at Class 6A, Area 12 rival Center Point on Friday, but rebounded with a home win over Pinson Valley four days later.
The two-game split was good enough to hold the Cougars in their previous position at No. 6.
The Class 6A girls poll: No. 1 Homewood, No. 2 Clay-Chalkville, No. 3 Austin, No. 4 Center Point, No. 5 Shades Valley, No. 6 Arab, No. 7 Lee-Huntsville, No. 8 Fort Payne, No. 9 Dothan, No. 10 LeFlore.
The Class 6A boys poll: No. 1 Lee-Huntsville, No. 2 Carver-Montgomery, No. 3 Austin, No. 4 Woodlawn, No. 5 Bessemer City, No. 6 Clay-Chalkville, No. 7 Pelham, No. 8 Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa, No. 9 Homewood, No. 10 Athens.
