PINSON — The Pinson City Council on Thursday approved a resolution supporting the continued operation of the UAB football program.
The resolution states that the city of Pinson “urges the University of Alabama System Board of Trustees and the University of Alabama at Birmingham President to ensure uninterrupted continuation and/or reestablishment of the University of Alabama at Birmingham football program.”
Councilman Robbie Roberts, a UAB alum, said the football program is an asset to student life and the college experience, and any detriment to the college experience affects not only the students, but the university and surrounding communities.
“The problem has been that there has been a lack of communication with the administration at UAB and with the surrounding population,” Roberts said. “They went in with a poorly done study that said that UAB football was not viable, but it turns out they did not base that on the current situation, but on future prognostication.”
