TRUSSVILLE — The Hewitt-Trussville High School Marching Husky Band is headed to Montgomery.
The band was nominated by Sen. ShayShelnutt and received a special invitation to represent the high school and city of Trussville in Gov. Robert Bentley’s inaugural parade Monday, Jan. 19 in Montgomery.
Band director Scott Waid said this is the first time in his 18 years at Hewitt-Trussville that the band has had this opportunity.
“It means so much to our band program to be able to represent our school and community in such a wonderful event,” Waid said. “We are quite honored to have received the invitation and very appreciative to Sen. Shay Shelnutt for nominating us to be a representative in the parade.”
The parade on Monday begins at 9 a.m. with the swearing-in ceremony on the steps of Alabama’s Capitol building. The swearing-in ceremony will be followed by the inaugural parade along Dexter Avenue, which begins at 11 a.m. The parade will highlight the diverse array of talents found across the state.
Each band in the parade will play while passing the Reviewing Stand in front of the State Capitol.
“This is a special time for my family and me, but also for the state,” Bentley said. “We invite all Alabamians to come celebrate with us.”
