ADAMSVILLE — The Clay-Chalkville and Pinson Valley boys and girls basketball team are taking part in the Jefferson County Tournament this week. Here’s a recap of how they fared during Tuesday’s action:
BOYS
Clay-Chalkville 60, Pinson Valley 46: In the opening round of the boys tournament at Minor High School, the Cougars knocked off the Indians to improve to 16-8 on the season. According to the team’s Twitter account, Kam Prewitt led the team with 13 points for the game. Pinson Valley will play Gardendale on Wednesday at 6 p.m., with the winner moving to the consolation final Friday. Clay-Chalkville will face Minor on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. The tournament final awaits the winner.
GIRLS
Clay-Chalkville 50, Gardendale 36: The Lady Cougars outscored Gardendale 16-2 in the first period and never looked back as they advanced to the semifinals of the tournament, held at Hueytown High School. The Lady Rockets made the final tally respectable after being outscored 49-20 through the first three quarters. Point guard and 2,000-point scorer Kristian Hudson led the Lady Cougars with 12 points. Clay-Chalkville will take on Minor on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The championship game will take place Thursday night.
Pleasant Grove 62, Pinson Valley 40: The Lady Indians were unable to topple Class 5A No. 6 Pleasant Grove on Tuesday afternoon. They will take on tournament host Hueytown on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m.
