His youth director at Holy Infant of Prague Catholic Church in Trussville suggested building the 15 Stations of the Cross behind the church, a series of artistic representations depicting Christ carrying the cross to his crucifixion. The last representation is of Christ’s resurrection.
Jones started on the project in August 2014. He spent an hour or two after school every day working on it, building frames, laminating the photos of the 15 Stations of the Cross, digging holes with some help from others, setting posts in the ground. He completed the project in November 2014.
Jones said that once he completed the project, church members shook his hand and told him he did a really good job. He went before the Boy Scouts of America Greater Alabama Council on Sunday to find out if he earned his Eagle Scout merit badge. He said he felt confident he would be successful. And he was.
Jones said it was important to him to complete his project locally.
“It’s something that’s going to be here for a long time,” he said. “I’m going to get to see it 10 years from now and think, ‘I did that.’”
