TRUSSVILLE — The Trussville City Council last week approved the Blow Away 5K run to benefit cystic fibrosis research.
The run isn’t until Nov. 14 starting at The Mall in Trussville, but event organizers were on hand last week to show their appreciation.
John Ives, a member of the Alabama Friends of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Board of Directors, said he appreciates Trussville’s support in years past.
“We’re really excited about this year,” he said.

Cystic fibrosis is an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system of about 30,000 children and adults in the United States, and 70,000 worldwide.
John Ives’ wife, Joellen Ives, is the vice president of development for the foundation’s board of directors.
“It’s making a difference,” she said of Trussville’s participation.
Trussville City Councilman Brian Plant said he’s “happy and proud” that Trussville has been and continues to be associated with the event.
John Ives said the foundation is doing whatever it can to “whip this thing called cystic fibrosis.”
“We’re on our way,” he said.
