JEFFERSON COUNTY — Potential winter weather issues have put opening day
plans on hold for a couple area baseball teams.
Clay-Chalkville was scheduled to host Springville in a doubleheader to start things off Monday, but decided to cancel the game Sunday afternoon. The Cougars will look to replace the pair of games, possibly against a different opponent.
Hewitt-Trussville planned to travel to Huntsville to play a pair of games Monday against Grissom and Huntsville. The Huskies decided not to make the trip, and will begin the season Wednesday against Hazel Green.
Pinson Valley is one of three teams slated to play two games Monday afternoon, along with Walker and host school Corner. As of Sunday afternoon, the schools will attempt to get the games in, while leaving open the possibility of changing those plans.
UPDATE: Pinson Valley has moved Monday’s games back to Tuesday. The Indians will face Corner at 2 p.m. and Walker at 4 p.m.
Monday is the first day that high school baseball teams are allowed to begin competition play.
