MONTGOMERY –Six Alabama Supreme Court justices concurred that Alabama’s ban on same-sex marriages is constitutional, multiple media sources are reporting.
In a writ of mandamus brought before the court by the Alabama Policy Institute and the Alabama Citizens Action Program, the state’s high court said that probate judges should not violate the state’s ban on same-sex marriage
“Alabama allows for ‘marriage’ between only one man and one woman,” the court said. “Alabama probate judges have a ministerial duty not to issue any marriage license contrary to this law.”
