TRUSSVILLE — Trussville Municipal Court’s Amnesty Day is scheduled for Wednesday, March 11 at Trussville City Hall.
It starts at 8 a.m.
VIDEO: Watch a report about the success of the last two Amnesty Days.
The amnesty day, granted by Judge Carl Chamblee, is for people to clear outstanding warrants. The warrants that qualify are:
- Failure to appear on traffic violations
- Failure to comply on probation fines and/or court-required programs ( Treatment Alternatives to Safer Communities, Theft Intervention Program, Domestic Violence Intervention Program, Anger Management)
- Bail jumping
- Negotiating a worthless instrument (the defendant must have the restitution in order for the warrant to be re-called)
Defendants are instructed to have the outstanding amount owed for the warrant to be recalled.
Last year’s Amnesty Day included more than 50 warrants being recalled, about $15,000 taken in and about 65 cases being closed. The rest of the people with open cases were put on a payment plan.
The 2013 Amnesty Day cleared more than 25 outstanding warrants and closed more than 65 cases. The one-day event collected more than $18,000 in fines and costs.
