CLAY – Four local baseball players were honored by Perfect Game USA, as the organization announced its annual preseason All-American and All-Region teams Tuesday.
Perfect Game USA released a national first-, second- and third-team list, each comprised of 50 players each, to go along with an extensive honorable mention selection. There are also 10 specific regions with a first and second team of athletes as well as an honorable mention portion.
Matthew Calvert, a Clay-Chalkville pitcher who has signed with UAB, was named to the national All-America High Honorable Mention list, the only local player to be recognized as such. He was also included on the Southeast Region Honorable Mention squad.
“It’s an honor to be able to be on the list by Perfect Game, because there are so many other good baseball players that could be on the list,” Calvert said. “I’m thankful to be listed.”
Hewitt-Trussville placed a pair of players on the Southeast Region Honorable Mention as well. Infielder Carter Pharis, another UAB signee, and catcher Cyle Moore were recognized by Perfect Game.
Pinson Valley pitcher Hunter Davidson was also named on the Honorable Mention list.
