TRUSSVILLE — A Trussville pain doctor who recently practiced at Eastern Interventional Pain in Trussville has surrendered his Alabama medical license.
Paul Stephen Raphael, 75, surrendered his license earlier this month.
On March 18, the Alabama Board of Medical Examiners accepted the voluntary surrender of Raphael’s certificate of qualification and license to practice medicine in Alabama.
According to Raphael’s voluntary surrender letter signed March 3, he acknowledged that this action is taken “by me while under investigation by the Alabama State Board of Medical Examiners for alleged violations of Ala. Code 34-24-360(8), distribution by prescribing, dispensing, furnishing, or supplying of controlled substances to any person or patient for any reason other than a legitimate medical purpose.”
According to www.easterninterventional.com, Raphael graduated from the University of Bologna Medical School in 1969. He completed his internship at Monmouth Medical Center in New Jersey and his orthopedic residency at New Jersey College of Medicine and Dentistry. His physical medicine and rehabilitation residency was completed at the University of Pennsylvania in 1976.
Raphael has held numerous positions in physical medicine and rehabilitation, including clinical director of Premier Physical Medicine in New York and clinical director at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pennsylvania. He has been board certified through the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation since 1978. Since 1989 he has been board certified through the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine.
Eastern Interventional Pain, where Raphael had been practicing, is located on Norrell Drive in Trussville.
