TRUSSVILLE – The Hewitt-Trussville softball team remains on top while the baseball team comes in at No. 3 in this week’s Alabama Sports Writers Association poll.
On the softball diamond, the Lady Huskies (24-3) hope to keep momentum on their side next week when they clash with Class 7A, Area 6 foe No. 3 Spain Park.
The area frontrunners are scheduled to meet Tuesday night in Hoover, followed by a game in Trussville on Thursday night. That series will finalize the Jaguars’ (15-3-2) Area 6 schedule for the year. Hewitt-Trussville will still have area home games with No. 8 Vestavia Hills on April 13 and Mountain Brook on April 15.
Here is the current Class 7A softball poll from top to bottom: Hewitt-Trussville (24-3), Sparkman (16-5), Spain Park (15-3-2), Baker (24-3-1), Central-Phenix City (24-8-4), Huntsville (14-6), Buckhorn (16-3), Vestavia Hills (14-7-1), Thompson (16-11) and James Clemens (11-4-1).

The unthinkable has happened. From No. 1 to No. 4, Area 6 has officially taken over Class 7A baseball. Top-ranked Mountain Brook and No. 2 Vestavia Hills have at least two things in common.They’re the two best teams in the state, according to the ASWA rankings, and they’re both 2-0 in area play.
No. 3 Hewitt-Trussville and fourth-ranked Spain Park have both started area play with 0-2 marks. The Huskies look to get back in the postseason race Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. when they start their two-game series with the Spartans at home.
In Class 6A baseball, Pinson Valley (17-11) has begun receiving votes to crack the top 10.
