PINSON — Trash pickup is set to begin in Pinson.
City officials said the new contract for trash pickup begins this month.
The new price will be $44.01 per quarter and will include recycling and certain yard wastes, along with free cans.
Pinson residents who subscribe to residential trash collection should receive two cans, one for household trash and one for recyclables. Residents should receive a letter from Advanced Disposal outlining the specifics for yard waste.
Trash collection will be once per week. Some residents currently receive twice weekly service (Tuesdays and Fridays) and will receive service on Tuesday only. The larger cans provided by Advanced Disposal should handle the condensed weekly service.
If residents need additional cans, the Advanced Disposal letter will provide information.
Pinson City Councilman Robbie Roberts said earlier this year that the trash cans could be part of the city’s “community branding.” He suggested a simple insignia on the side of the cans, with the words “Pinson” and “Pride” alongside it. The cans will be a dark maroon color, Mayor Hoyt Sanders said.
Roberts said he wanted the cans to emphasize that Pinson is “very environmentally friendly.” Roberts and Councilman Joe Cochran were to solicit ideas from various people, including the public and the Pinson Valley High School art department.
Those who aren’t within the corporate limits of Pinson aren’t eligible for the reduced price or enhanced services. However, if their property touches the current city boundary, they should be eligible for annexation. Those meeting this criteria may call Pinson City Hall at 205-680-5556 if they have a question about their municipal status.
