CLAY — The Clay City Council nominated and accepted its final Clay Library Board member at a relatively brief meeting Monday.
Chris Walker, the Clay-Chalkville Middle School band director, was nominated and unanimously accepted to the final position on the new library board. Walker has previously chaired the Clay School Committee. Walker’s term will be one year.
“I did talk to him today, and he was excited about the opportunity to serve,” Mayor Charles Webster said. “He’s very willing and very excited to be on the board.”
The new library board consists of Christy Steeley and Jane Anderton filling the four-year terms, Jimmi Lynn Amick filling the three-year position, and Andrea Self taking the two-year term.
The previous library committee was dismantled and reformed at the April 6 council meeting due to a number of issues, City Manager Ronnie Dixon said. The new Library Board will hold its first meeting Tuesday, April 28 at 6 p.m. The meeting will be held at Clay City Hall in the conference room. New officers will be elected at this meeting.
April Wallace, the director of the Pinson Public Library, will be helping the city council and the new library board determine what other changes need to be made. Under Wallace’s tenure, the Pinson library has been recognized as one of the most successful of its size anywhere.
In other Clay news, June 6 is the date of Camp Smile-A-Mile’s fun walk around Cosby Lake’s trails. The event begins at 8 a.m. and marks the opening event of the annual fishing rodeo at the park. The rodeo will begin at 10 a.m. and will continue until around 1 p.m.
