TRUSSVILLE — The four Trussville schools collected approximately 8,000 books for the Birmingham Reads Book Drive Challenge.
Paine Primary and Paine Intermediate schools combined to collect more than 6,000 books. Hewitt-Trussville Middle School collected 1,600 books and the Hewitt-Trussville High School Service Association collected several hundred books.
The books will be distributed to at-risk students through Better Basics’ programs. The participating school that collects the most books will win ,000, and the school that collects the most books per pupil will win 0.
The Birmingham Reads project is in its sixth year and is a partnership between Better Basics and the Junior League of Birmingham.
