CENTER POINT –A 24-year-old woman was shot and killed by the father of the four children she was babysitting in Center Point on Saturday morning, according to a statement from the Jefferson County sheriff’s office.
“Just before 9:30 this morning, deputies responded to a report of shots being fired at a residence in the 300 block of 18th Court NW in Center Point,” the statement from Randy Christian said. “They arrived to find a 24-year-old female victim who had been shot. Paramedics arrived and pronounced the victim dead on the scene.”
Christian said he investigation indicates that the victim had been staying at the residence with a friend when the 32-year-old father of the children came into the home and argued with the victim before returning to his car and retrieving a gun.
After the father left the house, a 13-year-old called 911 to report the incident. Dispatchers sent out a description of the suspect and his vehicle to nearby law enforcement agencies.
Christian said that deputies located the suspect in the 1300 block of 5th Place NW in Center Point where he was taken into custody and questioned by detectives.
The suspect is being held at the Jefferson County Jail. His name is withheld pending formal charges of capital murder.
The name of the victim is withheld pending notification of family.
