State law enforcement officials are investigating and incident on Interstate 20 following the apparent murder-suicide of two people in a vehicle that was being pursued first by Georgia law enforcement officers and then by Alabama state troopers.
“At approximately 11:30 a.m. Thursday the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Jacksonville Highway Patrol Post received notification from Georgia law enforcement authorities of a vehicle pursuit entering Alabama on Interstate 20 that involved an abduction,” sergeant Steve Jarrett said in a statement issued Thursday afternoon. “The vehicle stopped on I-20 at the 208 mile marker in Cleburne County. After a brief standoff, the driver shot the passenger and then herself. The shooter and the victim are both deceased. ALEA’s State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) is investigating the incident at the request of the Cleburne County Sheriff.”
“SBI is working closely with law enforcement in Alabama and Georgia, and the SBI will report its findings to the District Attorney,” Secretary of Law Enforcement Spencer Collier said.
The incident remains under investigation and more information will be reported as it becomes available.
