Dining by Design: Rojo’s 10 Percent Tuesday Supports MAKEbhm
Highland Park’s Latin and American cuisine destination Rojo has a diverse menu with items ranging from spicy paella and barbecue tacos to corndogs and grilled mahi mahi salad. Take advantage of Rojo’s happy hour during 10 percent Tuesday weekly from 5 to 6 p.m. with adult beverages like Good People Snake Handler, Trim Tab IPA, both on tab, and cocktails like strawberry margaritas and the “French Hound” while supporting local and national organizations or causes.
On Tuesday, August 25, Rojo will donate 10 percent of dinner, drink and appetizer sales to MAKEbhm’s Oliver Elementary School core curriculum design projects.
“We hope to enhance the current fifth grade curriculum by encouraging multifaceted thinking as it relates to the ‘cycle of innovation’ and by helping facilitate hands-on learning opportunities inside the classroom and in the MAKEbhm workshop,” the event’s Facebook page reads. “Our objective is to inspire and boost creative-thinking and complex problem solving while working independently and as a team with various design projects.”
According to MAKEbhm, “an open, membership-based space that facilitates creativity and the development of creative enterprises though facilities, resources and education,” the projects for the 2015-2016 school year will include creating a new board game, drafting a new design of the Birmingham flag during Birmingham’s Design Week, practice meeting customer design needs in collaboration with local businesses and work on multifarious self-directed design projects.
“These students, with the help of their teachers and our community, will be given an awesome opportunity to enhance the standard fifth grade curriculum while learning how it relates to real-world applications,” the event’s page said. “MAKEbhm hopes this is the beginning of a new level of education and is optimistic in continuing its involvement at Oliver Elementary and other schools in our area.”
Rojo is located at 2921 Highland Ave. For more information about Rojo, visit rojobirmingham.com. To learn more about MAKEbhm, visit make.frontdeskhq.com.
