CLAY – With a 17-0 wind at its back, Clay-Chalkville stands alone as the only team in Alabama to be ranked in USA Today’s Super 25 football poll.
Head coach Jerry Hood and his Cougars have opened the 2015 season with a business-like 2-0 start, claiming a pair of road wins over Blackman (Tenn.) and Minor. In total, Clay-Chalkville has blown past its first two opponents 87-22.
That domination has been acknowledged by more than the Alabama High School Athletic Association, who has ranked the Cougars No. 1 in Class 6A through the early days of the season. USA Today currently lists the defending state champions No. 11 in its latest poll, directly behind Georgia’s Archer High School.
No.1 Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas, Nev.)
No. 2 St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.)
No. 3 Dematha Catholic (Hyattsville, Md.)
No. 4 Centennial (Corona, Calif.)
No. 5 Cedar Hill (Texas)
No. 6 St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.)
No. 7 Allen (Texas)
No. 8 Colquitt County (Moultrie, Ga.)
No. 9 Colerain (Cineinnati, Ohio)
No. 10 Archer (Lawrenceville, Ga.)
No. 11 Clay-Chalkville
The Cougars will hit the road for its third consecutive non-region test at Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa before opening Region 6 play at Huffman on September 11.
“Every week is a big game for me and my team. We never take any team for granted,” posted second-year starting quarterback Ty Pigrome on Sunday via Twitter.
