TRUSSVILLE — Drivers who frequent Interstate-59 between Chalkville Mountain Road and Edwards Lake Road will soon be delayed, but the bumpy stretch of road should be repaired within a couple months, according to the Alabama Department of Transportation.
Work is scheduled to begin on the project at the northbound, inside lane from the north end of Edwards Lake Road to just south of Chalkville Mountain Road on Sept. 16. from 6 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. The focus will shift to the southbound inside lanes from 3 p.m. until 9 p.m.
The project is scheduled to be completed some time in November, and will cost $3.68 million. That cost includes concrete pavement rehabilitation with joint sealing, concrete surface grinding, asphalt overlay and permanent striping.
ALDOT will prohibit lane closures on the northbound lanes from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. and in southbound lanes between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. to allow morning and afternoon commuters easier access during high-traffic hours.
The department urges motorists who can to consider taking an alternate route, but always be mindful of work zone speed limits and workers.
I-459 Construction ongoing
Contractors are milling a portion of asphalt at the end of the northbound ramp at the intersection of Interstate-459 and U.S. 11 near Edwards Lake Road, and motorists can expect delays between 9 p.m. and 2 a.m. in the area.
The project will widen the on and off ramps on the interchange at I-459 and U.S. 11. The project has a total cost of $4.232 million, and will include shoulder excavations and asphalt paving with asphalt improvements for a half-mile stretch of U.S. 11.
