BIRMINGHAM — Jefferson State Community College is hosting a community celebration at its original campus on Carson Road to commemorate the school’s 50th anniversary. The event is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 30, and will begin at 11 a.m. with a historical marker dedication and a cookout with follow.
The event will take place between George Wallace Hall and Lurleen Wallace Hall at the campus.
“This is a historic moment and we invite our community to celebrate with us,” Jefferson State Community Relations Director David Bobo said in a press release. “This special anniversary event will be a wonderful opportunity for our students, alumni and friends to come together where Jefferson State began 50 years ago.”
The school began classes on Sept. 30, 1965, with 1,100 students.
