It’s been five weeks. Four road trips and a home game have Clay-Chalkville sitting on a 5-0 record and the No. 1 ranking in Alabama’s Class 6A heading into an off week.
The Cougars are coming off a 65-10 region win over Pinson Valley in their home opener last Friday night to improve to 2-0 in league play.

Class 6A, Region 6 standings
1) Gardendale (3-1, 3-0)
T2) Clay-Chalkville (5-0, 2-0)
T2) Shades Valley (2-3, 2-0)
T4) Pinson Valley (3-2, 1-2)
T4) Center Point (1-4, 1-2)
6) Huffman (1-3, 0-2)
7) Woodlawn (1-3, 0-3)
Following its idle week, Clay-Chalkville will jump back into a four-game stretch of region games. It all starts at Center Point on Oct. 2 before Shades Valley visits Cougar Stadium on Oct. 9. The following Friday will take the Cougars to Lawson Field for a game against Woodlawn followed by the region finale with Gardendale on Oct. 23.
Through the first half of the season Clay-Chalkville is beating its opponents 234-79. A defense that now has only one returning starter from its 2014 championship unit has held the opposition to 15.8 points per game, while the record-breaking offense has posted 46.8 points per outing.
