JEFFERSON COUNTY — One of the two teenage girls who was struck by a vehicle following a traffic accident Wednesday night has passed away according to Carol Robinson of AL.com. The report also stated the second girl, a Hewitt-Trussville student, was expected to recover according to Sheriff’s officials.
17-year-old Amber Stevenson was pronounced dead just after midnight Friday morning at UAB Hospital. Stevenson’s mother, who was injured in the initial crash was also hospitalized, but her injuries are not life-threatening.
The wreck happened around 8 p.m. Wednesday night when two cars — a Suzuki and a Honda — struck one another.
Both cars came to a rest in the traffic lanes, and the two 17-year-old girls got out of their vehicles to check the damage to each car when a Lexus, being driven by a 64-year-old male, came upon the accident and swerved to miss the vehicles and struck both girls.
The driver of the Lexus was uninjured.
