TRUSSVILLE — The Trussville Public Library hosted 186 girls and parents for their first American Girl Jubilee at the Trussville Civic Center on Sept. 13. This was a special event to kick off the 17th year of Trussville Library’s American Girl Club and the newest addition to the American
Girl Historical Characters – Maryellen Larkin (1954). Megan Patterson, Events Manager at the Trussville Civic Center approached Karen Davis, Children’s Assistant at the library, and offered their facility for the special event. Girls were able to visit different craft tables and make things like a card, shadow puppets or decorate a gingerbread man and pet rock. They also enjoyed playing with hula hoops, eating snacks and dancing along to a 1950s kids video. The program was very successful thanks to the help of generous volunteers.
The American Girl Club meets once month at the library. It is dedicated to studying historical dolls and teaching girls about the life of their favorite historical doll. There is a 20-minute history lesson, a craft related to the doll and a snack. Regular meetings are held on the fourth Monday of every month at 6:30 p.m. For more information call Karen Davis at 655-2022.
