TRUSSVILLE — The trial date is set in the case of Freddie Earl Patton, who is accused of murder in the the Nov. 2013 death of 81-year-old Ken Millar. The Jefferson County District Attorney’s office said the trial is set to begin Oct. 19, barring any continuations.
Patton was charged with murder after the shooting in November 2013, but the charges were dismissed at the request of prosecutors in December 2013. He was then arrested again in April 2014 and was indicted on intentional murder charges.
According to previous reports, Millar was the father of Patton’s common-law wife, and the two lived in the same home. An altercation between the two became deadly when Patton allegedly shot Millar.
Millar was transported to the hospital, but did not survive.
