Both Hewitt-Trussville and Clay-Chalkville celebrated its senior classes this week, and both programs sent its fourth-year girls out on a positive note, with home wins.
On Tuesday, Cougar seniors Kardasia Hitchcock, Annastasia Brackin, Briana Brown, Lexie Payne and Jaszia Bowie notched a Class 6A, Area 12 sweep of Pinson Valley in their final home match. Clay-Chalkville cruised through all three sets 25-8, 25-13 and 25-10.
Huskies’ seniors Meagan Edwards, Brianna Hampton, Jordan Somers and Charyse Swann said “goodbye” to Bryant Bank Arena in similar fashion on Wednesday when they downed Hueytown 25-14, 25-20 and 25-13.
Edwards had a memorable senior night, finishing with 19 assists four kills and three blocks against the Gophers. Somers produced three aces and a pair of kills. Hampton stepped in for two aces as well. Junior Rhianna Tyldesley greatly helped the cause with 15 kills, three blocks, eight digs and five aces.
For the Cougars, Hitchcock powered down 19 kills to go along with 12 digs. Brackin served up a pair of aces while delivering 34 assists. Brown went for seven kills and as many aces against the Indians. Bowie finished with six kills and aces while Payne went down for two digs and a kill shot.
Clay-Chalkville will host the Area 12 tournament beginning next Tuesday. Hewitt-Trussville will compete in the Class 7A, Area 6 tournament next Monday at No. 1 Mountain Brook.
