PINSON — The Pinson City Council recently took charge of the city’s various youth sports programs, and has been trying to find ways to improve them when possible.
In an improvement effort, the council is now looking into online registration for the sports programs. Blue Sombrero is the company the city is considering, and according to the mayor and councilman John Churchwell, there seems to be no down side to the program.
The program is not only used to register children, but it is also used to pay fees, coordinate game schedules, keep track of the sports each child has played and for how many years. The website is available 24 hours a day. According to councilman Robbie Roberts many local municipalities are using this program or similar ones with great success.
The site would save the city government a considerable amount in administrative time and money, and would basically cost the taxpayers nothing, Sanders said.
There is a 2.8 percent credit card processing fee with the website, but that fee might drop to zero based on web advertising that could cover the processing fees, Churchwell said. As a bonus, though, parents using the program would receive a 20% off coupon for use at Dick’s Sporting Goods.
