On Oct. 23 and 24, Birmingham will have a chance to experience an intimate concert and master class unlike any other with Broadway star Eden Espinosa. Musical theatre buffs will recognize her from her performances as Elpheba in Broadway’s Wicked or her portrayal of Maureen in Rent. Primetime television viewers may have caught her in an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Good Morning America, The Today Show, Law and Order, and Ugly Betty, and fans of cartoon and anime shows have heard her voice from her voiceover credits from several episodes of Robot Chicken, MADTV, and Titan Maximum.
On Friday and Saturday night, the accomplished actress from Southern California will sing select hits from her Broadway and off-Broadway career and from her debut album Look Around. Espinosa’s powerful command of music and emotion have set her apart, winning her roles as some of the most dynamic modern female characters in musical theater today. Having reprised roles originally performed by current Disney sensation Idina Menzel, Espinosa has proven to be a force to be reckoned with.
Saturday afternoon, 15 musical theatre students and performers will have the opportunity to attend an invaluable class taught by Espinosa. Espinosa will offer coaching on their vocal audition material. Each interested performer will submit a video audition prior to admission, but the class is open to all who would like to observe.
Eden Espinosa will perform at Red Mountain Cabaret Theatre at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 23 and 24. Tickets are $30. Espinosa’s master class will be held Oct. 23 from 1 to 4 p.m. Ticket prices vary and scholarships are available. For more information, visit redmountaintheatre.org.
