TRUSSVILLE — The Trussville Public Library has been undergoing demolition and construction on an addition to the property for some time now, and one cause for concern still remains.
Currently, the parking lot for the building has been temporarily closed for caution, but the closure has certainly caused issues with attendance.
“I think we’d all agree the main problem has been the parking. The city closed the lot for the safety of our patrons. We don’t have enough parking, so our numbers are dropping, but that will adjust itself once we reopen,” Director Emily Tish said.
Because of the area the library is in, there isn’t anywhere to put additional parking at this time. With municipal buildings, homes and parks surrounding the library, patrons are having to use a small alley lot on the side of the building to park.
“It’s been a real inconvenience for our patrons. This area is so compact with residential area, parks, municipal buildings, there’s nowhere to put any extra parking,” Tish said.
When the library reopens, however, the parking situation will change, but Tish said even then there won’t be much extra parking, but the additional spaces will be helpful.
“Parking will increase by about 25 parking spaces, that will make a difference,” Tish said.
