CENTER POINT — Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies, just before 1 p.m. today, responded to a report of a shooting at the Food Giant grocery store in the 1600 block of Center Point Parkway.
Deputies arrived to find an adult male victim suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The department said the victim and another man were collecting charitable donations in front of the store when two suspects approached them. One of the suspects produced a handgun and demanded the money collected.
A suspect allegedly shot the victim in the hip before both suspects fled on foot, leaving the money and collection bucket.
Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies said the suspects are described as two young black males, with one of them wearing a black jacket and the other was wearing a white jacket.
Deputies are currently in the area searching for them. The investigation is ongoing and updates will be provided as they become available.
