Trussville Tribune writers Erik Harris, Chris Yow and Kyle Parmley will be awarding Players of the Week in each high school football matchup of the 2015 season. Players or position groups will be awarded based on more than just statistics. The awarded player(s) will also be evaluated based on the timeliness of their performance. Tribune Players of the Week will be announced weekly on Tribune Sports Live.
Hewitt-Trussville 0, James Clemens 22
From the front line to the secondary, Hewitt-Trussville stood strong on the defensive side for much of the year. First-year defensive coordinator Rudy Griffin and his entire unit have been awarded the final POTW award of the season. The Huskies held opponents to 26 points per game under Griffin, who is awarded by Chris Yow.
Pinson Valley 7, Austin 35
Sophomore ball carrier Khymel Chaverst scored Pinson Valley’s only points of the night in the opening round of the state playoffs. Chaverst ran the ball 18 times for 114 yards (6.3 yards per carry) and the lone touchdown. He has filled in nicely for starting running back Torrey Hendrix, who has missed much of the season for Pinson Valley. Hendrix is awarded by Kyle Parmley.
Clay-Chalkville 48, Cullman 14
Andrew Van Winkle has been a welcomed addition to the Clay-Chalkville roster in 2015. The transfer student has shined as a kicker for the Cougars this year, and continued his accurate ways with a pair of field goals last Friday night. He connected on a 46-yarder in the first half and a 29-yarder in the second half against Cullman. Van Winkle is awarded by Erik Harris.
