Beginning Friday, Nov. 20, Naked Art Gallery will be transformed into a trippy, folksy, Birminghamian Santa’s workshop. The local art gallery has already begun prepping for Kitschmas, but patrons will have the opportunity to check their gift list twice while supporting Woodlawn’s Bib and Tucker Sew-Op with this annual holiday open house that will occur during Third Friday in Forest Park and Tour de Loo from 5 to 9 p.m.
According to Naked’s owner and resident artist, Véronique Vanblaere (or Véro, as she is more widely known), Kitschmas features “a gazillion handmade wonders,” most priced below $50. The pieces range from stocking-stuffers and ornaments to jewelry and home décor all made from recycled materials by more than 70 different artists.
Local favorites Chad Moore, Delaine Derry Green, Kathryn Cooper and Mimi Boston have contributed works for the gift guide.
During Third Friday, the gallery’s guest bartender will be creator of Bib and Tucker Sew-Op, Lillis Taylor, who designed the cooperative to build community through teaching sewing and design skills amongst a multi-generational membership. All bar tips will go to support Taylor’s vision for Woodlawn. On Saturday, Nov. 21, the Kitschmas Sugar High and Caffeine Reception will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. This month, Naked Art Gallery’s restroom has been re-imagined by Chiharu Roach as part of Forest Park’s Tour de Loo.
