BIRMINGHAM — A single-vehicle crash at 6:45 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 22, has claimed the life of a Florida child and injured six others.
Marvin Elmer Vogt Jr., 5, of Gulf Breeze, Fla., was seriously injured when the 2014 Chrysler Town and Country van in which he was a passenger left the roadway and struck a concrete median wall. The child was transported to Children’s of Alabama, in Birmingham, where he died at 3:25 p.m. today, Nov. 23.
The child was not restrained as a passenger in the van driven by Marvin Elmer Vogt Sr., 28, also of Gulf Breeze. Nicolas Vogt, 27, and Deanna Steinwagner, 27, were injured and transported to UAB Hospital in Birmingham. Zane Vogt, 8; Layla Vogt, 7; and Bentley Vogt, 2, were injured and transported to Children’s.
The crash occurred on Interstate 65 north one mile south of Fultondale. Nothing further is available as Alabama State Troopers continue to investigate.
