Opportunistic defense accompanied by a little thunder and lightning was enough to lift No. 1 Clay-Chalkville over Minor in the quarterfinals of the Class 6A state playoffs last Friday night. A.J. Walker (thunder) and Brandon Berry (lightning) followed the paths Cole Garrison and the offensive line paved to a blowout win. The duo combined for 225 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Berry, in his typical slashing fashion, took his 15 carries 120 yards and added a touchdown in the second quarter. Walker did his end zone dance late. He scored twice in the final frame and did his best lightening impersonation on a 42-yarder for the final score of the evening. Following the win, Walker now has 650 yards on 88 carries and 12 scores this season. Berry bumped his rushing total up to 872 yards (7.6 yards per carry) and six scores. The duo is awarded by Erik Harris.
