JEFFERSON COUNTY — A Jefferson County man is in custody after allegedly robbing a repossession agent at gunpoint following the repossession of a car.
Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies originally responded to the report of a traffic accident involving an overturned tractor trailer just after midnight on Wednesday morning. The truck collided with an unattended Chevrolet Camaro, jack-knifed and overturned, according to the sheriff’s office.
While deputies were on the scene in Docena along Minor Parkway, the owner of the Camaro returned, and as deputies were investigating the accident, a 30-year-old male victim walked in the Center Point substation to report he had been robbed at gunpoint. The man said he is a repossession agent and had been in Docena to repossess a white Chevrolet Camaro.
The victim said he was successful in picking up the Camaro, and drove out of the neighborhood. As he was driving along Minor Parkway he was forced to stop by a car that pulled in front of him and blocked his path. A black male got out of the car, pointed a gun at him and told him to “drop the car,” he said.
The victim left the Camaro sitting in the road and drove away. The suspect followed him for a short distance. The victim drove to the Center Point substation to report the robbery. The robbery information was relayed to deputies on the scene of the accident.
The registered owner of the Camaro was on the scene and matched the description of the robbery suspect. Sean Monroe, 48, of Birmingham, was positively identified as the man who allegedly committed the robbery. Monroe was arrested for robbery first degree and transported to the Jefferson County jail where he remains with bond set at $25,000.
The driver of the truck suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
