GARDENDALE — Linda Sue Morgan, 65, of Birmingham, and her son, Billy Earl Coleman, 43, of Birmingham were arrested Tuesday in connection with a bank robbery in Gardendale. Linda Morgan has been charged with robbery first degree and attempting to elude a police officer with a total bond of $25,300. Billy Coleman has been charged with first-degree robbery, attempting to elude a police officer and resisting arrest with a total bond of 25,600. They are both awaiting transfer to the Jefferson County Jail.
At approximately 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, a man entered the Cadence Bank location at 2250 Mt. Olive Road in Gardendale according to Gardendale police. Once inside he approached a bank teller and instructed her to fill a bag with the money in her drawer. The teller complied with the instructions and the male left the bank. No one inside the bank was injured and no weapons were presented by the suspect.
The suspect left the bank in a white SUV being driven by a white female. Gardendale police officers located the vehicle on Interstate 65 and pursued it as it exited onto Dewey Barber Parkway traveling west toward Mt. Olive Road. The suspects drove north on Mt. Olive Road and turned down a dead end road, Robert E. Lee Drive. The male suspect attempted to flee on foot, but was captured quickly by Gardendale Officers and a Jefferson County sheriff’s deputy.
