TRUSSVILLE — The Trussville City Council approved an ordinance Tuesday night to allow ridesharing companies such as Uber to operate with a business license within the city.
Trussville becomes the fourth city in metro Birmingham to pass such an ordinance. Mountain Brook and Homewood were the first in the area, followed by Trussville and Birmingham on Tuesday. Birmingham only approved the ride sharing ordinance for 6 months. Trussville’s will not have a time limit, but could be amended or modified if needed.
These Transportation Network Companies (TNC) will pay $500 per year to operate in the city, according to the ordinance.
Additionally, it is mandated in the ordinance that extensive background checks be done on each individual driver who operates, and meet very strict driving record guidelines.
Councilman Buddy Choat said Trussville would be happy to have these type companies working in Trussville as long as they follow the guidelines set forth by the council.
