PINSON – Weather permitting, the Alabama Department of Transportation announces a traffic shift on Highway 79 northbound and southbound from milepost 13.8 to milepost 15.1 on Friday, Dec. 11, beginning at 8 a.m. until 4 p.m., Ala. 79 northbound and southbound traffic will be shifted to the newly constructed Ala. 79 southbound lane approximately 1.5 miles north of Pinson. Motorists should expect significant delays as the roadway is being shifted.
The purpose of the traffic shift is to allow widening of Ala. 79 at the entrance to the Birmingham Northern Beltline. Traffic will be shifted for several months with a reduced speed limit and motorists are advised to use extreme caution in this area.
Emergency vehicles are encouraged to seek alternate routes.
Motorists are requested to consider using alternate routes, adjust arrival/departure times, observe work zone speed limits and adhere to other work zone signs in this area. ALDOT thanks motorists for their patience during this Construction Operation to improve Alabama’s roadways.
