TRUSSVILLE — An alleged shoplifter was identified on Wednesday morning, Dec. 16, at Belk in the Pinnacle shopping center in Trussville. When TPD officers responded, the woman fled the scene.
According to Captain Jeff Bridges, a police cruiser attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the suspect, but was unsuccessful.
During a brief chase down Main Street in Trussville, the suspect was driving erratically and struck a vehicle being driven by Trussville mayor Gene Melton. The suspect was able to elude police, but officers were able to identify the suspect through tag registration. The mayor was uninjured in the accident.
Belk Loss Prevention identified Carly Jana Grant, 24, of Birmingham, as the suspect. She was arrested today by Birmingham police on other outstanding warrants and Trussville police will file charges against her as well.
