TRUSSVILLE — With the recent announcement of a new retail shopping center coming to Trussville, Hobby Lobby was also announced as the anchor tenant. The chain craft store is certain to be a large draw for Trussville residents as 58,000 square feet of crafts await. On average, Hobby Lobby stores are 55,000 square foot buildings.
Vincent Parker, a spokesperson for Hobby Lobby, said the company wanted to open a store in Trussville for that reason.
“We feel that we can bring a very unique shopping experience to the area. We are looking forward to becoming part of the community,” Parker said.
Hobby Lobby prides itself on having something for everyone, according to Parker. The store has items for detailed crafters as well as for novice decorators. That alone makes Hobby Lobby different from many other chain craft stores.
Another separation measurement for the chain is more than 73,000 products in 13 different departments.
“You can personalize your world with our crafting supplies, home accents, custom frames and more,” Parker said. “We offer the widest variety of crafting supplies you will find in one location with new merchandise arriving all the time.”
Hobby Lobby is a family-owned company that began with custom-made mini picture frames in a garage 45 years ago in Oklahoma City. It has expanded to nearly 700 stores nationwide.
“The constant element throughout our 45 years of growth has been our loyal customers and our outstanding employees,” Parker said. “The foundation of our business has been and will continue to be strong values based on biblical principles, including integrity, service to others and giving back to those in need. We thank everyone who has contributed to our success during the past four decades and look forward to many more years of growth and service.”
Hobby Lobby said it plans to hire anywhere between 30-50 employees with full time pay beginning at $15.24 per hour. Part time employees will make $10 per hour.
Demolition and construction on the shopping center is expected to begin soon as permits are approved. Hobby Lobby expects to open in mid-2017.
