CLAY – The Alabama Sports Writers Association has released its finalists for Back and Lineman of the Year for 2015, and two locals are in the running.
Clay-Chalkville quarterback Ty Pigrome completed another stellar year under center to continue his hunt for a second consecutive Class 6A Back of the Year award. One of his favorite targets – senior wide receiver T.J. Simmons – joins him as a finalist this season.
The two are joined by Spanish Fort quarterback Tyler Johnston, who has verbally pledged with UAB, as 6A Back of the Year finalists. The winner will be announced at the ASWA’s Player of the Year Luncheon in Montgomery on Jan. 13.
Johnston was also a finalist for the award in 2013.
Simmons has been committed to Alabama since last February and shows no signs of veering from that path. Pigrome has yet to make a decision in his recruitment, but seems to like Tulane, who offered him in December.
