JEFFERSON COUNTY — One man is in police custody and deputies are searching for another after the two were spotted exiting the crawl space of a home on Chalkville School Road.
Just after 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of suspicious persons at a residence in the 1000 block of Chalkville School Road. When deputies arrived and began checking the perimeter of the residence, two men exited the crawl space under the house and fled on foot.
Deputies captured James Arthur Snider, 27, of Center Point after a brief foot chase. The second man was recognized by deputies as 40-year-old Joshua Ray Simmons of Center Point. He was able to elude capture.
During the investigation, deputies discovered the men were cutting and removing copper pipe from underneath the home. The home is vacant and is owned by a bank.
Snider was arrested and charged with third-degree burglary, possession of burglary tools and attempting to elude. He remains in the Jefferson County jail with bond set at ,000. Simmons remains at large. Warrants will be obtained for his arrest charging him with the same crimes.
