HOOVER — Hoover police are searching for a suspect in connection with a pair of robberies at two separate apartment complexes in the city. Around 6:30 p.m. Monday night, officers responded to a report of a resident who was robbed in the parking lot at Lorna Place Apartments. The victim was near the 900 building when he was approached by a black male with a handgun who demanded money. When the victim refused, the suspect struck him in the head with the gun. The suspect then fled on foot in the direction of the Walmart Neighborhood Market. The victim was treated on the scene for minor injuries by Fire Department paramedics.
On Wednesday, Jan. 6, at 7 p.m., a similar robbery occurred inside the laundry room at The Place at Galleria Apartments. The suspect pointed a handgun at the victim and stole a cell phone and $5 from him. This incident was captured by a surveillance camera.
The two most recent robberies appear to be very similar to four others that occurred in November. The November crimes all occurred inside The Place at Galleria Apartments.
In each of the two cases, the suspect is described as a black male in his 20s, carrying either an all-black or a black and silver semi-automatic handgun. He has fled on foot each time and no getaway vehicle has ever been seen. In November, detectives received information the suspect could have ties to the Gate City area in Birmingham. During at least two of the robberies there has been an unknown black male accomplice.
Hispanic victims also appear to be the targets in each of these robberies. Residents are encouraged to be aware of their surrounding and to call 911 to report any suspicious activity. We believe the surveillance footage could be crucial in helping identify this individual.
